Lok Sabha adjourned after uproar on AP special status

New Delhi, Aug.2 : The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12:30 p.m. following the protest by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) demanding special status to Andhra Pradesh. This morning, the YSR Congress leaders and TDP workers staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Parliament premises demanding special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

In protest against the Centre's refusal to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress has called for a shutdown in Andhra Pradesh today.

YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had said the NDA's alliance partner TDP also failed to impress upon the Centre in achieving special status for Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP and YSR Congress members yesterday joined hands in the Lok Sabha to demand special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

The YSR Congress members trooped into the well of the House holding placards and raising slogans seeking special category status for the state.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had last week told the Rajya Sabha that the Central Government is committed to keep all its promises and will fulfill all responsibilities.

The statement, however, did not go down well with the Congress Party as its members led by Digvijaya Singh and Anand Sharma staged a walkout.
