Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs offered new role on Mourinho’s coaching staff

London, May 24 : Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs has reportedly been offered a new role on the coaching staff led by Jose Mourinho, who is being considered as the favourite to replace Louis van Gaal at the helm of the Old Trafford club. Mourinho is expected to be appointed in the next 48 hours as new manager, with Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, due to meet his agent Jorge Mendes to finalise a three-year deal. According to reports, Mourinho is expected to bring his trusted deputy Rui Faria as assistant manager, which means Giggs could be in line for a demotion if he decides to continue with the club. The United legend, however, could opt to end his 25-year partnership with the club by refusing the post, the Guardian reported. Giggs, who retired in 2014 after serving United for four season, also took charge of the club temporarily after the then-manager David Moyes was sacked in 2014. Earlier in the day, van Gaal expressed that he was very disappointed to be unable to complete his intended three year plan, but added that the FA Cup glory would give the club a boost for next season and enable them to move forward and achieve greater success. United ended their troubled season on high with a FA Cup victory as van Gaal became the club’s first manager to win a major silverware since the retirement of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
