London [England], Oct.27 : Juan Mata's second-half decisive goal saw Manchester United edge past Manchester City 1-0 to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup at the Old Trafford on Thursday.
Despite starting strongly, a much-changed Pep Guardiola's side failed to make the breakthrough, thus allowing United to find a way back into the match,goal.com reported.
After a goalless first-half, United finally managed to find a winner in the 54th minute via midfielder Mata, who extended their local rivals' winless streak to six matches.
With the win, United have now set up a clash against West Ham, who knocked out Chelsea 1-2 to advance to the last eight of the competition.
