Mumbai neurosurgeon named for Dr B.C. Roy award

Mumbai, Aug 31 : Eminent neurosurgeon Dr B.K. Misra has been named for this year's prestigious Dr B.C. Roy National Award as an Eminent Medical Person of the Year, an official said here on Friday.

The highest medical honour of India, instituted by the Medical Council of India in 1962, it will be given away by President Ram Nath Kovind on July 1 next year, the National Doctors Day.

Misra is the Head of Department of Surgery as well as Neurosurgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at Mumbai's P.D.

Hinduja Hospital.

Hospital CEO Gautam Khanna said that "Dr Misra's contributions towards the field of medicine are invaluable and the recognitions he continues to garner is a testimony to his dedication and hard work."

During his career, Misra has several firsts to his credit, including image guided aneurysm microsurgery, first doctor in South Asia to perform gamma knife radiosurgery and first in the country to perform awake craniotomy for brain tumours.
