New Delhi: Traffic cops help transport heart over 18 km in 18 minutes

New Delhi [India], Apr. 7 : A green corridor was set up from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI) here on Thursday to transport a live heart for transplantation in a 13-year-old patient from Agra, as the 18-km-distance was covered within 18 minutes.

The heart was carried by a team of doctors after retrieving it from the donor, who was a 32-year-old woman from Faridabad.

Police said that the heart was kept in a special box and rushed through the green corridor to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI).

While, traffic police personnel were deployed on the way to regulate the traffic on the road. The recipient is a 13-year-old boy, who was undergoing treatment of viral Myocarditis (Myocarditis is usually caused by a viral infection) at FEHI for the past one year.

He was admitted in the hospital since the beginning of this week and his condition was deteriorating day by day.

His father who works in the armed forces had also taken premature retirement for his treatment..
