Offices of Zardari’s close aide raided in Karachi

Islamabad [Pakistan], Dec. 23 : Pakistan Rangers on Friday raided multiple offices of a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Zardari is scheduled to arrive in the country today at the end of his self-imposed exile of a year-and-a-half.

Officials of the paramilitary force confiscated records and detained five office bearers during raids at Anwar Majeed's offices located in II Chundrigar Road, near Hockey Stadium and Hotel Metropole, reports the Express Tribune.

Weapons were also recovered during the raid. The first raid was carried out at Omni office at II Chundrigar Road and two employees were detained. The team then raided offices near the Hockey Stadium and Hotel Metropole. Majeed is a businessman and a close aide of Zardari and has been reportedly involved in transfer postings of police officers in Sindh police.

Earlier it was reported, Sindh IG AD Khawaja was sent on a 'forced leave' owing to differences with Majeed.

Zardari had left the country in June last year following a hard-hitting speech that criticised the establishment for over-stepping its domain, thereby offending it.

Since then, he divided his time between Dubai and London. The former president is expected to address a rally of thousands of party workers before heading towards the Bilawal House.
