Open defecation free India: Big B launches ‘Darwaza Band’ campaign

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 30 : To end open defecation, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, on Tuesday, launched a new campaign called 'Darwaza Band'.

At the event, the 'PINK' star said, "I thank the organisers for having me here. It's a great honour. The inspiration to be a part of this initiative, as we all know, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi." Talking about the title of the drive, Big B said, "A lot of discussion took place considering the name of the campaign.

While some were okay with the name, others weren't. The meaning of 'Darwaza Band' is that those who defecate in the open can have a place where they can do it behind closed doors.

And the second interpretation is that the doors are also closed for those who indulge in wrongdoings." At the launching ceremony, the 74-year-old, who is leading the campaign, was accompanied by Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Singh Tomar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
