Pakistan summons Iranian Ambassador over army chief’s warning

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 9 : The Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday summoned Iranian Ambassador over Iranian Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Gen Mohammad Hossein Bagheri's remarks regarding cross border action.

The head of the Iranian armed forces had yesterday warned Islamabad that Tehran would hit bases inside Pakistan if the government does not confront militants who carry out cross-border attacks.

According to a report in Geo News, the FO said in a statement that it conveyed to the Iranian ambassador that such remarks were against the spirit of brotherly relations existing between the two countries.

The Iranian side was urged to avoid issuance of such statements that could vitiate the environment of fraternal relations.

This comes as last month, ten Iranian border guards were killed at Mirjaveh on the Sistan-Baluchistan border by the Pakistan-based Sunni terror outfit, Jaish al-Adl or "The Army of Justice".
