Patiala House Court violence: Three charge sheets filed

New Delhi, July 23 : The Delhi Police have filed three separate charge sheets in the Patiala House Court complex violence case in February when Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Student's Union president Kanahiya Kumar was being produced. A group of men, said to be lawyers, attacked mediapersons when Kanhaiya, who was accused of sedition, was being produced at the court. In the first charge sheet, police have accused three lawyers Vikram Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma of various charges such as rioting, criminal intimidation and causing hurt and mischief. Police alleged that the three lawyers had instigated mob that attacked journalists. The second charge sheet was filed against suspended MLA O.P. Sharma over his alleged involvement in assaulting a CPI activist outside the court premises. While the third charge sheet pertains to assault on an advocate inside the Patiala House Court Complex, in which Vikram Singh Chauhan and Yashpal Sharma have been accused. Police examined around 20 people, including security guards, lawyers and scribes, who had witnessed the violence while preparing the charge sheet.
