Punjab polls: Capt. Amarinder, Sidhu to file nominations today

New Delhi [India], Jan. 18 : Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh is all set to file his nomination papers against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) heavyweight, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, from Lambi on Wednesday with the Congress high command clearing his name for the seat yesterday evening.

Another Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will also file his nomination today from East Amritsar constituency later today.

The Punjab Congress president yesterday filed his nomination papers from the Patiala constituency for the February 4 state assembly election.

Accompanied by his wife and the present Patiala MLA Preneet Kaur and other family members he went to the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and filed his nomination papers.

Sidhu's associate and former hockey player Pargat Singh has been allotted the ticket from Jalandhar Cantt, with Jalandhar DCC Rural president Jagbir Singh Brar chosen to contest the Nakodar seat.

In his debut assembly polls, he faces Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajesh Honey, a young leader who worked in Sidhu's camp for years.

Sidhu is expected to be the Congress' star campaigner in as many as 70 rallies through the state for the coming election.
