Rosberg pips Hamilton to take Japanese GP pole position

Suzuka[Japan], Oct.8 : World Championship leader Nico Rosberg edged past his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to take the pole position for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

Rosberg was lagging behind Hamilton in the race before he improved in the final run to beat the Briton by just 0.013 seconds to take his eighth pole of the season.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was again Mercedes' closest rival, finishing the race in the third place ahead of team-mate Sebastian Vettel, formula1.com reported.

Vettel, however, has a three-place grid penalty which will drop him to seventh place. The Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo was unable to challenge Ferrari and had to settle for fifth and sixth position respectively.
