SAD leaders Bolaria, Upkar Singh Sandhu to join Congress

New Delhi [India] : Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and former SAD president of Amritsar Upkar Singh Sandhu on Thursday announced that they would join the Congress on Dussehra.

Both leaders had earlier met Congress general secretary Harish Choudhary and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh in the national capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Awaaz-e-Punjab forum of Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sucha Singh Chhotepur's Aapna Punjab Party (APP) also tried to induct Bolaria into their respective parties prior to the Punjab Assembly polls.

The two-time legislator from Amritsar South had rebelled against the ruling party because he didn't want a solid-waste-treatment project in his constituency.

In April, the party sacked him as chief parliamentary secretary (education) when he started an agitation against the project.

Bolaria was once close to SAD president Sukhbir Badal and state cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

Upkar Singh Sandhu, who was earlier the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) chairman and SAD's Amritsar district chief (urban) in the Badal government, had also resigned from all posts.
