New Delhi [India], Jan. 17: The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear the plea filed by NGO Common Cause, seeking an Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the documents allegedly recovered by the Income Tax Department in connection with raids on the Sahara and Aditya Birla groups in 2013-14.
Earlier activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan termed as unfortunate the judgment in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO seeking probe into bribery allegations against the Prime Minister and some other politicians and said it was setback for the campaign against corruption and probity in public life.
In a statement, Bhushan, who appeared for the Common Cause in the case, said the judgment will leave a cloud of suspicion over all the persons mentioned in some documents.
The apex court asked the NGO to come up with relevant material and dismissed the plea. NGO Common Cause had moved the court seeking a SIT probe into the evidence gathered against the Sahara Group and the Aditya Birla Group regarding bribing of politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was Gujarat Chief Minister.
