Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 12 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah on Tuesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led-Government of doing nothing in terms of development of the state, in their regime.
Addressing the gathering at the intellectual meet in West Bengal, Shah said, "Once due to the iconic leaders like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, West Bengal was on the path to glory.
But after Communist and All India Trinamool Congress government, the state is fighting for its existence.
Mamata Banerjee should answer the people, why Bengal is lacking in all aspects of development? She must tell people where has their money gone, as there is no real development in the state." Highlighting achievements of BJP Government in last three years, Shah further averred that Prime Minister Narendra Government has put India on the path to glory.
"BJP has given a transparent government to the nation. The government has built 4.5 crore toilets in just three years. The government saved 59 thousand crore public money with the help of direct benefit transfer scheme. They have also ensured electricity for all, and particularly in rural India till 2018. Today the whole world believes that India can surpass any limit in its defence," he mentioned. "The BJP has started a new era of 'Politics of Performance' in the country," he added. Earlier in the day, Shah said, those who talk about human rights in New Delhi must go and see the situation in Kolkata as well.
"The human rights' champions, who speak on every incident, must also report what is happening in Birbhum and Barasat [in Kolkata]," Shah said.
Shah also made an appeal to those involved in political violence in the state to put a stop to such practice.
"I appeal to those involved in political violence, that it is in their benefit to stop doing so," he said.
There have been several episodes of violence reported in West Bengal. Few Left supporters, yesterday, in North 24 Parganas district clashed with the police outside the District Magistrate's office while protesting against the government's policies.
He is on a three-day visit to the city from yesterday to September 13..
