Suspect dead, 8 people hospitalized after active shooter reported at Ohio State University

New York [United States], Nov. 28 : A federal law enforcement official has said that a suspect in Ohio State University's campus is dead after an active shooter was reported in the campus.

Law enforcement on the ground believes the threat is controlled, said a official, who was briefed on the latest information on the situation.

At least eight people have been hospitalized after an active shooter was reported on the campus of Ohio State University on Monday, authorities said.

Columbus Fire spokeswoman Rebecca Diehm said that one of those eight patients is in critical condition.

People were asked by the campus officials to take shelter in a place and avoid the Watts Hall area, reports CNN.

"Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College," Ohio State University Emergency Management tweeted. Watts Hall is the university's materials science and engineering building. "We heard a lot of sirens. I was in class and everyone got a text message at the same time for the emergency alert," said OSU senior Anthony Falzarano.

"Someone said they heard popping right before we got the alert, but I didn't hear it. We are in a shelter-in-place right now in the building next door. There's a lot of police and fire trucks and an ambulance outside the building." he added..
