London [England], Oct.5 : Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has insisted that he has no complaints over losing his place in the first team at the Old Trafford, however, admitting that he needs to work harder to get himself back into the squad.
The England international was dropped from the starting XI during the side's 4-1 win over reigning Premier League champions Leicester City, whereas he also started from the bench in the Europa League game against Zorya Luhansk.
The 30-year-old said he completely understands manager Jose Mourinho's decision to axe him after United's 1-3 defeat at Watford last month.
"Listen, I had a bad game at Watford. I played bad, I know that and I understand that. I think if he was picking the next team on the back of that, I understand not playing. The team have done well, certainly in the Leicester game since that," Rooney was quoted as saying by goal.com.
Earlier, Mourinho had said that Rooney had returned from the previous international break as a different player, with United losing three matches in a row.
In the absence of Rooney, the Mourinho-led side went on to clinch victories against Leicester City and Zorya.
"The team came back different, but I'll take a lot of that.I'll fight. I won't fight for my place, I'll fight to try and get back in," Rooney said. United, who are currently languishing down to the sixth spot in the Premier League standings, will next lock horns with Liverpool on October 18.
