Collingwood issues ‘Wood’ warning to Pak

Karachi, Aug.22 : While issuing a warning to Pakistan batsmen, former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood has said that fast bowler Mark Wood can cause a lot of problems with the white ball to the opposition in the upcoming five-match ODI series, starting from August 24 in Southampton.

Although Wood had been troubled by persistent ankle injuries and has not featured for England since the Test match against Pakistan in Dubai last October, he came up with some brilliant spells by bagging four for 25 in Durham's seven-run T20 Blast semi-final win over Yorkshire at Edgbaston recently.

Wood, however, failed to replicate his heroics in the finals and ended up taking a single wicket in Durham's four-wicket defeat at the hands of Northamptonshire, the Express Tribune reported.

In spite of that, Durham skipper Collingwood believes Wood is ideal for the shortest format of the game, pointing out that the bowler knows that he would get only four overs to bowl and, therefore, he would try to bowl every single one at full tilt.

Describing Wood as a `genuine wicket-taker`, the 40-year-old expressed confident that the pacer's fitness would hold up in the ODI format as well.
