SC issues notice to EC on PIL seeking disqualification of Nitish’s legislative membership

New Delhi [India], September 11 : The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to Election Commission in regard with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking disqualification of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's legislative membership.

The court further directed the EC to file a reply within four weeks. A Delhi lawyer ML Sharma had filed the petition demanding Kumar's disqualification as an MLA for allegedly hiding his "criminal records" while filing election affidavits between 2004 and 2012.

The petition alleged that there was a criminal case against the JD(U) leader wherein he was accused of killing a local Congress leader Sitaram Singh, and injuring four others ahead of Lok Sabha by-election to the Barh constituency in 1991.
